In the autumn of 2011, patients registered at The Farmhouse Surgery were invited to join our virtual patient reference group to assist the practice in finding out how we can improve our service to you, and how you perceive the attitudes of the staff and of our surroundings.

This group was advertised on the practice website, by posters displayed locally, by information on the repeat prescription slips and by word of mouth, staff of all levels engaging with patients to encourage the views of a wide range of patients from every background and age range.

In an endeavour to select the topic that most of the group had concerns or an interest in, patients were asked to select one of the following:

  • Clinical care
  • Getting an appointment
  • Reception issues
  • Opening times

Whilst the two key areas chosen were ‘getting an appointment’ and ‘opening times’ as all four areas were almost equal, it was agreed that the survey should cover these topics.

Of 76 patients that completed the application forms, 58 patients, aged between 17 and 84 years of age, responded to the questionnaire. All patients with an email address have been notified that the survey findings are accessible through the practice website.

A copy of the patient feedback survey and the full practice report can be accessed through the website. The practice and PRG profile showing the demographics of both practice population and of survey responders is also available through the website. Copies of these three documents are also available through NHS Choices website.

Of the patients that completed the survey a chairperson and secretary have been appointed and a cross section of five registered patients has been invited to attend a meeting in May 2012 to discuss these findings. Also in attendance will be Dr Jenifer Worden, GP partner, and Mrs Sheila Leete, Practice Manager.
